BlogPure Storage FlashArray//X Named a Solid-State Array Leader in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant

Data & Storage - Delivering Digital Transformation

The Pure Storage FlashArray//X is the world’s first enterprise-class, all-NVMe flash storage array and delivers a new class of storage that Gartner coined – shared accelerated storage. This because it effectively unites both networked and direct-attached storage into a single, shared architecture.

In a blog late last year, we highlighted several reasons we like the FlashArray//X. To recap they were:

  1. It’s super-fast. It is 100 percent NVMe and delivers 2X the performance of their //M version and delivers latency as low as 250 µs with full date services enabled.
  2. The consolidation is dense. The all-NVMe architecture aids in consolidation, delivering up to 3PB in 6U, and a market-leading 10:1 Total Efficiency, and a 5:1 data reduction. This reduces workloads and delivers performance consistency.
  3. There’s simplicity at scale. The Always-on QoS delivers 99.9999 percent availability, comes with full software services built in (DirectFlash), and delivers API automation and AI-driven cloud management.
  4. It’s Evergreen. Pure Storage has delivered seven generations of FlashArray non-disruptive, data-in-place upgrades.

With these nice benefits, it’s no wonder that Gartner has placed Pure Storage nicely out in front in their Magic Quadrant for solid-state arrays. As Gartner states in their analysis:

Pure Storage is quickly bringing to market new SSA technologies such as NVMe/NVMe-oF, and moving into new high-growth, unstructured data workloads, such as AI, machine learning, and analytics with its FlashBlade product. Pure Storage has often set the pace and direction of the SSA market. This can be seen by its movement into a new area: ready-made solutions for AI. This is a partnership with NVIDIA, which offers an integrated system called AIRI, using FlashBlade and NVIDIA DGX-1 servers. Pure Storage offers a new subscription called the Evergreen Storage Service that enables customers to pay for effective GB (not raw) storage usage as a monthly operational cost. The vendor is growing slightly faster than the SSA market, which is positive, as price, feature, guarantee and service competition is very fierce in this market. Furthermore, Pure Storage addressed concerns of its viability when it achieved financial profitability at the end of 2017.
