Our own Vice President of Operations, Vickie Wilson, is at the Louisiana State University campus today serving as a panelist for the LSU Women In Technology Careers forum. Vickie is one of eight panelists who are LSU faculty members and high-ranking professionals in private industry and state government.

The event was driven in part by a recent Forbes article, “Here’s the Real Reason There Are Not More Women in Technology,” which explored potential explanations for the relative scarcity of women employed in technology fields. It suggested that many young women are simply unaware of the variety of career options available.

“The purpose of the event is to make young women more aware of the potential and the advantages of a career in technology,” says Karen Sirman, the event’s chairwoman and a senior manager with University Information Technology Services.

The forum will feature a panel of professional women currently working in technology careers and related fields. These panelists will discuss their own accomplishments and the varied career opportunities available to young women today. The event organizers expect the students who attend the event will extract new ways they can transfer their interests in science, technology, engineering and mathematics into successful and rewarding careers.

Hosted at the Louisiana State University campus today, September 20th, from 9:00am – 3:00pm, the event will consist of a panel discussion, lunch, a career day-style networking session and drawings for door prizes. NetApp, Advanced Systems Group, LSU Information Technology Services (ITS) and LSU Career Services are sponsoring the event.

Vickie Wilson first joined ASG in 1985 as a member of the accounting department. In 1999, the company elevated Vickie to her current top position, Vice President of Operations. Today, Vickie is very involved in new company initiatives and the development of new processes and procedures. Throughout her career at ASG, Vickie has kept the company's internal operations updated with the latest technology, thereby enhancing teamwork, encouraging faster and more accurate communication, and streamlining document management applications.
