Houston Office - Pre-Sales Engineer
Location: Houston, TX
Reports to: Regional Sales Manager, Houston
Travel: Up to 25%

Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, CIS or MIS, or Electrical Engineering
- Current vendor certifications are a plus: VCP, MCSE, Solaris Certified, NCIE, CCNA or above, Symantec (Backup & Recovery or High Availability), CommVault certifications, HDS or EMC certifications
Experience
- Minimum of 8 years in hardware technology and Unix platforms (preferred Solaris)
- Minimum of 4 years as a Consultant, Sales Engineer, or Post Sales Engineer
Job Description
- Provide pre-sales technical sales support to ASG Account Executives for hardware and software product offerings primarily from NetApp, VMware, Sun Microsystems, Symantec, HDS, and other primary vendors (Estimated 80%)
- Gather technical information to develop ASG-provided solutions
- Work with sales force members to gather pre-sales site information and estimate project scope for installation/integration of systems and service solutions
- Provide implementation services for hardware and software-based solutions
- Acquire and maintain training and manufacturer certifications (Estimated 10%)
- Conduct all ASG Consulting Services related business in an appropriate and customer-focused manner
- Track, organize, and conduct projects and assignments efficiently
- Develop and maintain relationships with customer and vendor technical contacts
Mandatory Skills
- Strong verbal and presentation skills with the ability to tailor dialogue to targeted audiences
- Strong oral and written communication skills including experience writing documentation, assisting with SOW development, and corresponding with customers and vendors
- Must be detail-oriented
- Must have the ability to estimate scope and effort accurately in order to prepare level of effort (LOE) documents
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with internal team members, customers, and vendors
- Strong understanding and experience with NetApp storage products
- Strong working knowledge and experience with VMware, Microsoft, Linux, and Solaris operating systems
- Strong knowledge and experience with storage solutions from the major storage vendors (HDS, EMC, IBM, LSI)
- Extensive knowledge of SAN architecture and implementation, iSCSI, and NAS technologies (Brocade)
- Knowledge of Backup and Recovery technologies, including tape and disk products (NetBackup, TSM, CommVault)
- Technical knowledge and understanding of methodologies for achieving High Availability, (including clustering) working knowledge of a UNIX-based clustering product is a plus (VCS, Sun Cluster, HACMP)
- Working knowledge of enterprise security practices and products
